M.I.A Mommy (A to Z)

It's very hard to come up with a blog post when I've slept all day. No mommy awards for me.

I was visited by Super Cookie, the most adorable, flying, super-girl around. (And her trusty daddy, the "wind beneath" her cape... Since he flew her everywhere duty called.)

I especially love the goggles she added to her costume.

I am the luckiest Mommy in the world to still get so much love on a day I've gone M.I.A.!

April Fool (A to Z)

Today is the first day of the A to Z Challenge! I was a little worried because I am not feeling up-to-par today.  I still have pain from my teeth pulling extravaganza and not a lot of energy with an all-liquid diet, so my planned "Art" events were going to be canceled.

Oh dear, what am I going to do!  No fear.  I forgot about the fool I live with :)

(Caitlin is a brills stylist!)

Hubby made a very lame attempt at an "April Fools" day joke.  "I have 2 stay (at work) till 4"... unfortunately for him I was in a pain-med-induced nap... ha! He had to call the girlies to see if I got the text. From there he was the goofy hubby that I love... until...

Don't joke about shakes with a pain-induced-liquid-diet wife!
Shakes are no laughing matter!

But he's cuddling me the rest of the day... so he's forgiven.

While I was Sleeping...

"You must be dying because you haven't posted since Monday." I've been tired. I made it through Monday and Tuesday but worked half day on Wednesday... Sleeeeeeep.

Then, I (TMI) had a nice vomit incident on Thursday afternoon.  Aside from the drama of (1) vomiting; (2) vomiting at work; (3) standing 'nekked' in the third floor ladies room wandering if I could just lay down on the cold tile... there was also the frustration of ALMOST working a full day.  Arg.  So close.

I'm so glad I took a vacation day today. Rest, relax... no embarrassing vomit situations. (Although Caitlin did give me that "you are so gross" look this morning... but that's just bonus baby!)

Time is ticking while Kathleen is sleeping. (I really wish I could have rhymed something with "ticking.") Anyway, it's spring break and the girlies and hubby have not been wasting a moment! Well, hubby has taken some moments to cuddle me and make me feel better... but that's in between the fun stuff!

Tuesday

Mostly fun stuff... I was a crabby pants when I got home on Tuesday.  I threw a hissy fit because Honey had a graphic of a gun on her shirt.  "Pick your battles," I know, but in my weakened condition and having a gun "pointed" at me really... set me off.  Electronic freebie night to make up for that...

Caitlin's masterpieces using Hubba Hubba:

Caitlin, Hubby, Kitty, Hubba Hubba

Siobain, Spartacus, Me

Siobain worked on this animation on her NintendoDS.  It's not done yet, but it's awesome... even though I don't like the music...

Wednesday

Goin' to the Drive In!  Hubby and the girlies checked out a new (to us) drive in on the other side of town.  They reported back that it is better than the one we usually go to.  Siobain was awesome and made sure there were photos taken.  I think she did a really great job.

Apparently there is a mini golf course there too... with a Sponge Bob... I do love photos with statues. No really, I do.  Hubby makes fun of me.

My favorite photo is of the girlies playing with the speakers.

Thursday

Grrr... Hubby played at open mic. No one took pictures.  There will be punishment especially since everyone was laughing about what a great time they had.  Cruel.

Friday

And that brings us up to today.  Caitlin made this wheel, it says "horn" in the center, and made Hubby be the car.  No major crashes but I think the blue book value for the hubbymobile suffered today.

Honk if you're adorable!

They just got back from the museum...

They only took a couple of photos... but they brought me ice cream, so we're good.

Puppet Master

Hubby is the puppet master.
The king of all wacky, tacky and true hilarity in our household.

He recently decided the family should watch the Muppet Show and ordered the first DVD from Netflix. Here is a photo of them watching the show...

Couple of things... but first I have to say that this is a SOFA.  Like, it fits three 200lb men comfortable, I assume, because I have home invasion issues. Anyway, there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out... but these three always sit like this... all crowded up.  I don't get it.

Second... Muppet Show, ain't "haha" funny.  Clearly demonstrated by the photo above.

Third... Even if it isn't a "haha" show, these three look like they are watching Bambi lose his mother.  Except Honey, she's got an evil smile.

Fourth... Caitlin reminded me of the iconic Les Miserables poster.

Do you see it?

After they watched some good old Muppet fun I was visited by some old friends...

(Hubby and Caitlin)

Lucky! I caught their second act on video!

Geographic Tongue

Back to the doctor this afternoon... for the last time, yea!!  I've been given a "much better" bill of health.  Get it? Not a "clean" bill of health 'cause I'm still sick... anywho. I can return to work on Monday.

I sound better and look better. Ya know, on the inside.  'Cause I am a great big give-up on the outside.  You see the bottom of this photo?  What should be the top of a shirt? Or dress? Nope, those are my pajamas.  Yup, I went there. Well, I put pants on. And a jacket-y thing.  But still. Pajamas.

I'm really looking forward to feeling better.

You can tell I feel better because I took photos :)
(instead of lying down and whimpering)

So even though I don't have to go back for another check up, unless something doesn't feel right, I still have to do another month of breathing treatments. Well, 25 more days anyway.

I found out a fun fact during this illness episode.... I have a geographic tongue!

I have always been self-conscious of my tongue... cause it's ugly.  Not only is it weird looking (geographic) but I also have scars from a nice big bite when I was little.  But know that I am one of the 2% of people on the planet with a geographic tongue I feel... still self-conscious.  But I have buddies out there somewhere.

The geographic tongue would explain why I have immediate reactions to some foods (jalapeno incident with Beth) and why my tongue looks different from day to day.

So I came home and told hubby that I am not a complete freak of nature... 2% of the population are freaks with me!  And do you know what he said? "I think I have that too!"

Dork.

Breathing

I'm on bed rest until after my x-ray tomorrow.  Bed rest when you are sick is not as fun as "bed rest" when it is cold and rainy and you get to watch a movie or read a book and drink hot chocolate.

It's not the same when all you want/can do is sleep. The good news is I'm feeling better every time I wake up.

They added another med today...

What the ha-shizzle!
I don't know if I would always find this contraption complicated or if it's because of the other 15 meds that I'm on... but I had to read the directions 3 times before I was ready to attempt a dose.  In the second column of instructions (ha-shizzle) they mentioned a rattling, if you don't hear the rattling, shake to hear a rattle.  What the ha-shizzle is going to rattle?

Success, I heard the rattle.  The PILL rattles.  In the 1 ft x 2 ft of fine print instructions they should have added the word "pill" to that section.  Just saying.

My other breathing treatment is in the nebulizer...
which I'm used to because of the girlies.

I feel like a fish.
Or a scuba diver would probably be more appropriate.
But I'm 0n meds... and that's my excuse for goofy-ness today.

Back to bed.

Words With Friends

I'm currently playing my first two games of Words With Friends.  My sister Sarah is making a monkey out of me.  I'm keeping pace with Gabe.

Sarah sent a text "are you even trying?"

"Yes, I'm playing with my friend Gabe and just played 'barf', I no longer think I am even of average intelligence :("

This solicited a call from Sarah.  She went through a list of tips and I was doing all of them.  But apparently my strategy was all wrong.  With the three letters I had just played she could have tripled my points elsewhere on the board.  It's all about board placement. You should never lay anything on the board that scores less than teen points.

Since taking this as my number one priority I have indeed tripled my score per play.

Also, apparently regular Scrabble rules don't apply.  There is no "fake word flag" by the opponent because the game prohibits you from playing a word that doesn't exist.  So the other player doesn't know if you try a word spelling to see if it will work. There are a lot of weird spellings out there (which has always been my excuse for being a bad speller!)

Now I know why people have been "blah blah this game is so fun blah blah blah" forever. The smart phone is changing my life a little.

I was home sick today.  "Lucky lady time" plus coughing has been added to my ailments.  I doubt they can add anything to my current med arsenal.  I'm now having to take two handfuls of pills instead of my regular one handful.

Over medicated anyone?  Just for the next 6 days.

The girlies and hubby saw The Lorax today.  They said they liked it, but there was no gushing "mommy you HAVE to see it".... so it must not have been that good.

Hubby and I watched Martha Marcy May Marlene tonight.  I've been wanting to see it for a while.  I've always been fascinated with brainwashing and cult behavior.  The selection process and the power some people can hold over others.

I thought it was a well done movie.  Subtle acting and interesting editing.  I recommend.

Wambulance

"You need me to call you a wambulance? You seem to have a bad case of the whines"
                                                                                           - Keith B.

Perhaps I was whining a little...

I might have mentioned that I dropped a glass jar on my second toe...
and I might have speculated that I am probably going to lose that nail.
(The photo does not do it justice.)

And I might have mentioned that I had a migraine, and itchy eyes, and allergies.

And I might have mentioned that I was going to have the allergy test this afternoon.
67 needle pricks... allergic to most of the 20 items tested.
The welts had already gone down by the time I took this picture.

So yeah, he had a point about the whining...

Suck It UP!

The "sick" has gotten to my spirit a little.  What sick? You've got a freaking infected sinus infection! SUCK IT UP!

I'm a little depressed about a work situation.  Work? You've got a great JOB that you love and that pays all your bills and leaves you a little something extra! SUCK IT UP!

I didn't get to see Vera this week. Therapy? You get to go to therapy every WEEK, one of the perks of having insurance! SUCK IT UP!

Hubby is gone for the weekend. Gone? You get a hubby break? Boo-hoo! SUCK IT UP!

I have to pick the girls up from school. School! They are getting a great education, for FREE! SUCK IT UP!

Okay, I'm gonna give myself a little bit of a break on the school-pick-up thing because it is scary. Plus I thought that "publicly" yelling at myself would help me get out of the funk... but now I'm just embarrassed, as I should be.

Cedar

This is my nose on Cedar.
Doesn't look so bad from the outside...
... but there is misery on the inside.

Trying to understand more about this devil called Cedar I found this picture and web article...It resonates with me.

BTW... I love the title of this article.

The Jokester

Very powerful allergy today. I think it's Cedar/Juniper keeping me hostage... but the forecast looks really good for tomorrow with the rain :) Yay!

I took all my prescribed meds, "stolen" meds, and OTC meds that I could.  But I was still too uncomfortable to function.  Tomorrow I'll call the dr. about getting shots.  One of my co-workers is doing that and it might help.

The family stuck close by my side today... I kept waking up to find someone practically sitting on me.  Apparently there were games played, movies watched, and jokes told in my bed all day long.  And football too, watched not played (thank goodness.)

I was stuck in the bathroom for a bit of the day.  My sneezes were more powerful than my bladder... I know some of you ladies know what I'm talking about.  So, I'm sitting on my still-new-to-me-toilet and I notice the jokester is at it again...

I have not been able to pin this on her yet, but I am pretty sure this "jokester" is little miss Caitlin.  These are Roommates Wall Decals, wall clings that are way to easy for the jokester to reposition.  This poor crocodile keeps getting a snake-on-a-stick shoved up his a$$.

If this "jokester" is my hubby, which he vehemently denies, then he is being put on warning.  I would put a camera in there to catch this person if that didn't seem so.... wrong.

Instead, I reposition it and threaten everyone to stop.

But they aren't scared of me.  At least the "jokester" isn't.  I'm a little concerned that Caitlin received the Harry Potter cling set for Christmas. We are going to re-decorate her room and I thought REMOVABLE Hogwarts decor was the way to go :) see, I try to be fun. Anyway, my concern are the WANDS that surely came in the wall cling kit... I hope they are permanently attached to hands...

When you have strep...

You should take the opportunity to "shop" for your Halloween costume...

And think up ways to convince mommy that it IS a good investment to get a $$$ Hermoine costume.  Probably should be asked while running a fever and coughing.  A weak trickle of a voice doesn't hurt either.

Paper magazines are the beginning of Caitlin's shopping addiction.  She cuts, prioritizes, and plans... to spend my money.  I really need to get her addicted to COUPON cutting...

My poor baby.  Missing day 6,  7, and 8.  She's Dr. approved to go back to school tomorrow because the drugs will have kicked in.

I really hope no one else in the house gets it.

Bonus - New Record...

Sick on the 6th day of school...

Seriously?
Did she go around and lick all the surfaces?
Did she kiss all the boys?
Did she yell "hey germs, come and get me!"?

I'm just saying.
6th. day. of. school.

I am thankful that little coughs and snot and slight fever is all we worry about.
We are so lucky to have healthy girlies.
And we are lucky to have such a great Dr... who we'll get to see tomorrow.

In Commando of the Situation...

My day began with a bag of smiley balls...

... and ended with a commando walk out of the office.

The Situation

My day started with an anonymous "Good Turn" by placing a ball and tag (photo above) at each of my co-workers seats. (Ok, it's not anonymous if you are one of the 2 people reading this blog... but I think my secret is safe.) Anyway. I got into work at 5:30 so that I could print the warnings and place the balls (giggle) before anyone got to work.

By 6:00 am I was on a roll getting tons of work done.  It's amazing how much work can be accomplished before anyone else arrives to work.

I KNOW, where is the COMMANDO?  I'm getting there.

Today I was wearing a dress (which is rare) and black, absorbent as it turns out, shoes. I was also very excited about my office rug that arrived (photo tomorrow).  Just setting the scene.

I had a visitor after lunch.  Duc is soooo charming.  And sweet. And quiet. And I adore him.  He stops by occasionally when he needs a break from the programmers bull pen, like, once a month. Twice if I'm lucky.  I am always so glad to see him.

I don't know if he will EVER return for a visit again. -- Before I continue, you should know I had just gotten back from a delicious mediteration lunch and my stomach was full and satisfied.

We were chatting, first about my new rug, then about his car accident, naturally flowing into his destination during the car accident - a Vietnamese Supermarket. Which led further conversation to other markets.  I've been to an authentic Mexican market and have often gone to Indian markets. He joked that sometimes he questions how they qualify for the city inspection certificates.  We both laughed... and you just have to go to one to understand.

This led to my tales of lunch with Faisal and  Jim back in the good ol days when I got to eat Pakistan/Indian at least once or twice a week.  We had our dives (and I mean complete dives) that we would go to.  The people were so wonderful and nice and food was fantastic.  So you overlook a few things. And they all loved Faisal and Jim and were very nice to the Caucasian girl who poorly pronounced her order.

I decided to tell Duc the story of one of my lunches... It should be noted that my gag reflex is now immune to this story because I have repeated it so many times.

The story - Faisal, Jim, and I were at one of our favorite dives.  It was the most "restauranty" of all the dives.  The food was delicious and cheap. I was sitting next to a wall.  As I was eating a 2 inch cockroach starts walking up the wall. Jim and Faisal, continuing to eat, claiming that "all restaurants have roaches." This would not change my mind "those restaurants have the decency to keep the roaches out of the dining room!"

Hahahah... Duc and I laughed at the story.

He had a similar experience. The one and only time he went to Hooters, against his will, because all his co-workers said the wings were the best ever. Duc is not the kind of guy that would go to a place call "Hooters".  One of his co-works decided not to go for the wings and ordered a salad instead.
As the salad-ordering-co-worker was about to take his first bite a roach crawled from under the lettuce leaves of the salad.

This was the first of my hyper-sensitive GAG reflexes.

Duc continued the story, not realising how sensitive by Gag reflex is.

I then had three rapidly consecutive, but controlled Gag reflexes.  Ending in a fourth uncontrolled Gag reflex that produced... lunch.

I make it to my trash can, kinda, but the flood gates had opened. In between bouts I told Duc he best leave.  Another wave... this one with the distinct need to urinate.

A mad dash down the hall.  Made it just inside the ladies room when I completely lost it.  Fortunately they keep a lined trash basket right inside the door so I was able to empty the contents of my stomach... and unfortunately the contents of my bladder.

By lucky chance I was wearing (very rare occurrence) a dress. So my blatter was able to empty itself in an orderly fashion right to my shoes. My very absorbent shoes.

Feeling better... or at least confident that the vomiting was over. I squished to the sink to rinse my mouth and assess the vomit damage.  Nope.  This dress was not salvageable without a good visit to the cleaners. After cleaning as best I could I squished to the stall to asses the urine damage. Nope, the panties were not salvageable with out several runs through the washing machine. Not even at an acceptable  level to wear getting home.  I dried off my legs and confirmed that my left shoe was also not salvageable... but was the hero of the situation by collecting all the urine.

Leaving the ladies room COMMANDO (per this situation I use "ladies" loosely) I went back to my office to assess the situation. Damn, my brand new carpet.  Yes just a bit, but still, this is not the christening I was expecting. A spilled coffee or soda,  maybe some less damaging water... but vomit?  Cleaned the small mess with my every trusty Clorox wipes.  Sealed the garbage bag, as I had done in the restroom and went to let my boss know I would be leaving immediately.

"Why?" was the first thing Peter asked.
"Because I have just vomited and peed all over myself."
"that was too much information"
"You asked. What exactly did you want me to say"
"Personal girl problems"
"Noted"

Then I proudly walked commando out of the office.  With a short detour to Karen's cube to share, what I have come to see as a highly entertaining situation.

At the beginning of the day my theory was that smiles are contagious.  By the end of the day, based on Peter and Karen's reactions, I've added to my theory that Gagging is also contagious.

Clueless

Me: "ug, I don't have anything to take a picture of today."
Hubby: "You should take a picture of the TV..."

Here are the signs my husband missed right before I shot him... with the camera.

pajamas

Clean shot, right in the eye....

Good Morning Sunshine

Have pneumonia. Girlies and hubby taking really good care of me.

Sista Siobain sent this pic of girlie Kate this morning... she's growing up so fast.

Traitor

Feeling worse tonight. Fever up again. Waiting for Care Now to call.

"Can you go take a picture of the neighbor's tree for me?" I ask of my hubby because I have a fever and don't want to get up except to go to the restroom. (Also, tree is in full bloom and lovely.)

"No, we should take a picture of you. This is your 'living' blog and the flu is what you are living now." Says the traitor.

Unfortunately I have no energy to fight him, even in my crabby crabby mood. So here I am, wearing my zebra glasses.

That Blows

Today is my 37th birthday! If you don't know, I l-o-v-e my birthday. It's all about ME!

That is why I am officially calling a birthday do-over.

It is impossible to be "annoying birthday girl" when you are stuck in bed with the flu. Apparently there was a charming birthday song sung this morning by my girlies and hubby... that I have no recollection of, but they repeated it after school... along with 37 spanks (ouch) and it was as precious as you would expect.

It compares in no way to this twisted song, sung by my sister... who knows that no matter how sick I am, March 7th is about ME :)!

I will say, this man did take very good care of me during this bout of flu... maybe I'll let him stay around...

Flu or no-flu, I love my birthday!

Influenza

Fever
Headache
Cough
Sore throat
Runny nose
Body aches

And yet, she's still one of the most beautiful girlies in the whole wide world.

Honey was only able to read on her nook for about twenty minutes before my big girlie turned back into a little girlie. She "cuddled" up on the paper lined exam table and I rubbed her head while we waited for the Dr.

X-ray, breathing treatment, fever reducer, strep test, flu test and several "I want to go home"s later... we have a diagnosis... the flu. Nothing to do but get through it.
